Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have availability?

Yes! I currently have availability - generally during the day but also have limited spots in later afternoon, evenings, or weekends. After reaching out I can send you a list of days and times I have appointment slots open.  Once we settle on a time that works for both of us, generally I leave that slot open as 'your slot' to meet in the following weeks to simplify planning and scheduling for both of us.

What age clients do you see?

I mainly see high-school age clients and older for individual sessions. I sometimes see younger clients on a case-by case basis.

What are your fees? Do you take insurance?

Current rate for 50-minute session is $60; I do not take insurance at this time.  For more info, see the Fees & Insurance page.

What is the first appointment usually like?

I see the first appointment as a chance to begin to get to know each other. It is important for me to hear what brought you in to see a counselor and what your goals are - how you hope to grow. I will help orient you to the counseling process, ask you some questions about your story, and propose a pathway forward to reach toward your goals - collaborating together on the direction therapy will take.

Do you offer after-hours or emergency services?

As a counselor in private practice, my main work happens during regular business hours and by appointment after-hours.  While I am not able to catch every incoming phone call, my current response time for returning calls and emails is usually within just a few hours (but please be patient if it takes me a little longer than this at times!). Calls received after-hours or on weekends typically are returned the next business day.

If you need emergency services, call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or call the Crisis Center in Birmingham at 205-323-7777.

Can you see non-Alabama residents?

License limitations allow me to only provide services to Alabama residents in-person at my office location in Birmingham and across Alabama virtually.

What can I expect from a "Christian Counselor"?

Having trained at a seminary, I am very comfortable integrating faith into the counseling room. At the same time, as part of my belief in the inherent value and worth and dignity of all people, I am also very comfortable working with clients of diverse backgrounds and faiths, even clients with no religious beliefs at all. I think you will find me to be caring, compassionate, and understanding towards your pain, no matter your background, beliefs, or the sources of those wounds.

How do I get started?

Call or email to get started! I can answer any questions you have over the phone or over email, and if we decide to work together, I will send you a link to sign up through my practice management software.
